WIAW #61: Simple Summer Eats

This WIAW is all about keeping my eats simple during summer in the city. It’s a little early in the season for some of my favorites, and I only get to enjoy the grill when I’m at home on weekends, but even on a summer night in New York City, I can still whip up a satisfying and summery meal. Without heating up my apartment too much!

Gluten Free Maine: Bam Bam and Burgers

I’m back from my trip Down East, and it’s time for a week of Maine-related posts here on the blog. Five days in Maine spent in Portland, Freeport, and Kennebunkport, eating lots of delicious seafood and sweet treats, exploring the Atlantic coastline, and shopping at my version of Mecca (the L.L. Bean store complex) made for a wonderful vacation. To kick off the recaps, I’m starting with a post on two of my gluten free Portland discoveries, Bam Bam Bakery and B. Good Burger.

Thoughts on Food: Now and Then

This Sunday, after my runger finally stopped raging and I had not been the nicest person to be around for a few hours in the afternoon, I got to thinking about my relationship to food a year ago, or two or five or ten, as compared to what it currently is. There’s a huge difference between now and then, and I’m grateful for it, but change didn’t happen overnight. It was gradual over time, so that sometimes I’m still surprised when I realize how far I’ve come.

Scotland Run 10K Race Recap

Happy Monday! I’m checking in with my usual weekly workouts post, along with a Scotland Run 10K race recap since that took place on Saturday. It wasn’t the “highlight” of my running, considering the light rain that fell throughout the race, but then again, it seemed appropriate for a Scotland-themed event. I was just happy we had a few days with sunny skies and warm breezes this week before the crazy weather kicked in again.

WIAW #50: Half Marathon Weekend Eats

I cannot believe this is the 50th time I’ve written a WIAW post. They’ve become a staple on the blog. I found, after years of wondering why in the world someone would bother taking a picture of their food, that they’re actually some of the easiest and most enjoyable posts to write, because I like eating, cooking and baking, and it’s nice to think others might admire the result of my endeavors, or just be interested in the combinations of eats I create. And I find inspiration for my own meals by reading similar posts on other blogs. So here we go again, this time with a rundown of my eats the weekend of a half marathon in New York City.

Third Time’s the Charm at the NYC Half Marathon

Yesterday I ran the New York City Half Marathon for the third year in a row. This race was my first half marathon ever in March 2014. I was so happy and proud (and freezing in the 15 degree weather!) afterwards, and the moment I crossed the finish line, just a year after I first ran three miles without stopping, was the same moment I began to dream of running the marathon one day. My second time around last March was a little warmer and a little less momentous – still fun, of course! This year felt like the third time’s the charm. Not only did I set a personal record, it marked my first longer distance race of 2016, putting me on the path to the Marathon come November.

WIAW #49: Saturday Sweets

In today’s WIAW, you’ll see a lot of eats I posted on Instagram over the weekend (although this isn’t a complete Behind the Instagram like last week). I just ended up sharing most of my meals from Saturday in photo form, and it was a recipe shoot day to boot, which meant lots of snacking on sweets directly from my oven. Starting with breakfast. In addition to my lemon water, Larabar, and cup of tea before my run, I had a Buckwheat & Quinoa Banana Muffin – recipe coming this Friday!

Five: A Random Blog Survey

After seeing this survey on Julie’s, Brittany’s, and Courtney’s blogs, I thought it would be fun to fill out myself. Especially after wistfully glancing over the photos of travel locations and jamming to the music selections! I decided to go alphabetically in each section, but there are shout-outs to a few of my number ones 🙂

WIAW #48: Behind the Instagram

This WIAW is all about the eats I’ve been showcasing on Instagram lately, and telling you the stories behind the Instagram of mouthwatering photos. Like this one of a typical at-the-office breakfast for me, a Baked Quinoa Flax Cake with chocolate chips and peanut butter. I tend to enjoy this alongside a cup or three of decaf coffee, with some fruit to follow. I’ve always enjoyed dessert for breakfast, and now that I’m off oats I thought I’d be trying all my oatmeal cake flavors out with quinoa flakes, but I’m still not tired of the PB&C combination.

Best Eggs on the Upper East Side

I’ve shared so many photos and stories about brunch on this blog, I’m surprised I haven’t done a roundup of any sort. Until now, that is. I’m not exactly an expert, but I do dine out for brunch pretty much every weekend that I’m in Manhattan on one if not both days, and I’ve been doing so since law school. It’s how I socialize with friends and family alike, and I think that paired with a lovely long run it makes for the perfect Saturday or Sunday. So today is all about four spots that I think have some of the best eggs on the Upper East Side, key to any gluten free girl’s brunch and really a great way to judge a restaurant.
