WIAW #50: Half Marathon Weekend Eats

I cannot believe this is the 50th time I’ve written a WIAW post. They’ve become a staple on the blog. I found, after years of wondering why in the world someone would bother taking a picture of their food, that they’re actually some of the easiest and most enjoyable posts to write, because I like eating, cooking and baking, and it’s nice to think others might admire the result of my endeavors, or just be interested in the combinations of eats I create. And I find inspiration for my own meals by reading similar posts on other blogs. So here we go again, this time with a rundown of my eats the weekend of a half marathon in New York City.

February Recap

The shortest month of this Leap Year has come and gone. Even with the extra day it felt like it flew by faster than January, but also like it went on forever because of everything I fit into 29 days. Maybe also because the wacky weather gave us multiple seasons in mere days. No blizzards, but we went from polar vortex to teasingly springlike and back to somewhere in the middle just in the last week. So what did I do while this was going on? Read on in this February recap to find out!

Best Eggs on the Upper East Side

I’ve shared so many photos and stories about brunch on this blog, I’m surprised I haven’t done a roundup of any sort. Until now, that is. I’m not exactly an expert, but I do dine out for brunch pretty much every weekend that I’m in Manhattan on one if not both days, and I’ve been doing so since law school. It’s how I socialize with friends and family alike, and I think that paired with a lovely long run it makes for the perfect Saturday or Sunday. So today is all about four spots that I think have some of the best eggs on the Upper East Side, key to any gluten free girl’s brunch and really a great way to judge a restaurant.

January Highlights

We’ve reached the last day of the first month of 2016. I feel like I was just getting ready for the new year and reflecting on 2015, this month flew by so fast. That’s why I want to focus on making the most of the present instead of worrying about the future this year – it goes by in the blink of an eye, and I don’t want to miss a moment! Since this blog serves as a sort of adventure log for me as well as being a place to collecting running and recipe tips, I’ll be recapping each month like I did for several months of last year (April, May, June, and July) and then lost track of doing with all my traveling. I’m settled into the swing of my new routine now, I’ve learned a lot from blogging having reached the one-year mark, and today is all about my January highlights!

Weekly Workouts and a Weekend Blizzard

This week’s workouts were all about getting ready for the Fred Lebow Half Marathon, my second half marathon in as many weeks that I was using to test my endurance as I look forward to formulating a marathon training plan. Except the Fred Lebow was cancelled on Friday because of the impending blizzard, affectionately known up and down the east coast as Winter Storm Jonas. In the end, I was disappointed that I didn’t get to race, but just because the official race was cancelled didn’t mean I couldn’t still get outside and enjoy the winter wonderland that is Central Park in snow. I took the most gorgeous stroll last January during the so-called Snowpocalypse, and was determined to do the same this time around.

Weekly Workouts and Updates to Kick Off 2016

Happy New Year to one and all! It’s the first Monday of 2016, and I’m kicking off the year on the blog with my usual weekly workouts and updates. I’m making these posts a priority because I’m running the New York City Marathon in November and plan to document my training journey here. I won’t start officially training until late March or early April, but I’ve got three half marathons on the calendar between now and then. Starting with the Walt Disney World Half Marathon on January 9th (and the 10K the prior day), just a few days away.
