My weekly workouts and updates showcase the first week of the marathon training plan that Laura created for me. Because she tailors the training plan to each runner’s individual needs, I won’t go into the very specific details, but I will be sharing the general plan as I embark on my journey to the starting line. I’ll start there today, and then get to a few other scenes from the week and weekend.
This weekend, I had the honor of attending the bridal shower of one of my closest friends. It took place in the garden of our hometown’s quaint historical museum, and was the perfect celebration of one of the kindest, most caring people I know and love.
They say that March roars in like a lion and goes out like a lamb where the weather is concerned. Well, the opposite is true if we’re talking about my life. The first two weeks of the month were relatively quiet, coming off the whirlwind of my Florida trip. Then things sped up, quite literally, with my PR in the New York City Half Marathon, continued on to a weekend escape to Connecticut, and now it’s full steam ahead into April and everything planned for the spring. Hoping everyone who celebrates the holiday had a happy Easter! I’m checking in with my usual weekly workouts and updates, this time including a weekend at home in Connecticut to take advantage of the slowly-turning-springlike weather and to celebrate my mom’s birthday with a family dinner. First a quick recap of my runs, and then onto the weekend fun!
I’m feeling pretty refreshed this Monday after getting to spend some of the weekend at the place I still consider home in Connecticut. It’s always nice to escape Manhattan, and when I don’t have the chance for awhile, I tend to get a little bit antsy, so I took advantage of the opportunity during the one weekend in February I didn’t have a ton of plans. I don’t have much to report on the running end of things. I took it easy again this week because of how I was feeling the week prior. But I’ll share my usual weekly workouts and updates anyway. And some photos of Sasha, because when I’m home I spend all the time with her that I can.
Happy New Year to one and all! It’s the first Monday of 2016, and I’m kicking off the year on the blog with my usual weekly workouts and updates. I’m making these posts a priority because I’m running the New York City Marathon in November and plan to document my training journey here. I won’t start officially training until late March or early April, but I’ve got three half marathons on the calendar between now and then. Starting with the Walt Disney World Half Marathon on January 9th (and the 10K the prior day), just a few days away.
It’s the last Monday of 2015, but with the extraordinarily warm week of Christmas we just experienced in New England, my holiday weekly workouts and updates are looking a little more like April than December. I ran outside 4 days and wore shorts and a tee or tank every time, walked my dog in shorts and flip-flops on Christmas Eve, and didn’t even bring a coat when my family went to see Star Wars and go for sushi on Christmas Day. I baked while we caught the end of the A Christmas Story marathon on TV, and we made frozen hot chocolate to drink with the treats. Whatever the reason, I’m not complaining. I love a snowy white holiday season, but it’s been nice to spend so much time outdoors!
This post about running without music originally appeared on FitApproach last Friday. I had no idea they were going to publish it so I wasn’t able to promote it like I should have been, but it’s something I’ve thought about a lot and I hope it inspires some of you to give it a try!
Wind whistling against the leaves, birds chirping high in the trees, sneakers hitting the pavement with every step I take. These are the sounds I hear as I run along in the morning. In spring and early summer, there was more buzzing from the bees. Now that it’s autumn, the falling leaves dominate nature’s symphony, punctuated occasionally by the loud crack of an acorn hitting the ground.
Happy Monday, everyone! As you read this, I’ll either be on my way or already going through my first day of work as a lawyer in NYC. I definitely have a sense that this is truly a season of change, as my life shifts from one phase to another. I’m nervous and excited all at once, and I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes – I’ve really enjoyed all the time I got to spend blogging this summer and early autumn, and will be keeping at it. My goal is to post 3-4 days per week, rather than the 5-6 I’ve been posting, but still enough to share all the recipes, running, life updates and random thoughts you care to read about 🙂
