Tallying Up My Travels

This Thursday, I’m sharing the nitty-gritty details of everything I spent on my travels over the past couple of months. Before I set off on my first trip, I decided that I was going to make an effort to write down everything I spent so that I could keep track of where my money was going, and also not let things get too out of control. I knew that the total after tallying up my travels over the course of 25 days on 3 trips in 2 countries, 2 states, and more than a half-dozen cities, with transport via planes, trains, and automobiles, was going to be significant. But as I’ve shared recently, I really value experiences over the accumulation of stuff and this time after the bar exam before my new job and next phase of my life begin was a wonderful opportunity to see new places with old friends and make memories that will last a lifetime. The monetary value of tallying up my travels ended up totaling roughly $3,685.30. The rest of it? Well, that can’t be measured in dollars and cents.

A Visit to the Getty Villa

Today’s post is the last in the series of my California adventure! Read more about what I was up to in Disneyland here and here, running the Disneyland 10K and Half Marathon, and my time in San Diego here and here. And now, on to my final day on the west coast, primarily occupied by a the Getty Villa in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles.

 

More Exploring in San Diego

Good morning on this beautiful Monday! I’m happy to be safely home after my adventures in California, and I’m really looking forward to savoring the next month as summer holds on for me (and for a lot of the country, apparently). I will be heading to Nashville for a weekend to visit a good friend later in September. Otherwise it’s time to relax and take a real breather before my new job starts in October. But I’m not done sharing my travel adventures with you yet – we left off yesterday with my first two days in a very sunny San Diego, and today the tales of exploring in San Diego continue, this time with a visit to a lighthouse, a beach, and a lovely resort town. All familiar to a New England girl, but with a California twist!

 

Working Up A Sweat in San Diego

Happy Sunday! As you read this, I am en route back to Connecticut after nine days in sunny Southern California. My days at Disneyland were filled with fun, food, and running, from my arrival and the Expo to discovering the parks on day two to running the Disneyland 10K and Disneyland Half Marathon to complete the Dumbo Double Dare. On Labor Day, I took a drive with my friend Ashley down to her hometown of San Diego for another five days of adventure. It was toasty on the way down, and by Tuesday morning we realized that I had come at the start of the hottest weather San Diego has had all year. But that didn’t stop us from running and exploring. We were on our way to working up a sweat in San Diego!

 

Disneyland Take Two

The second day of my Disneyland Adventuring was even better than the first. As I mentioned, I woke up absurdly early on Friday, but I used the time to unpack and get settled and arrived at Disneyland Park as they were letting people on to Main Street. I had never been in a Disney park at rope drop – people get really crazy, running to their favorite rides! I strolled over to Dumbo first because I figured I needed to give my childhood favorite a whirl in my Dumbo race shirt.

 

 

California Here I Come

I can’t believe it’s the first day of September already. As I mentioned yesterday, I am determined to hang on to summer as long as I can. The weather here in New England is complying with my wish. It’s going to be in the mid- to high-80s all week, and pretty humid – so warm that when I head to Southern California on Thursday I may be heading into temperatures just slightly cooler than in Connecticut (although not by much!) I just whipped up a batch of my No Bake Peanut Butter Berry Bars because the oven is not coming on around here for a little while.

Trains, Planes, and Automobiles in August and Beyond

As promised yesterday, I’m ending July and kicking off August with a post featuring my plans for post-exam travel! As is traditional, most law firms have their first-year associates start working at least one month after the exam in late July, and typically closer to two. Everyone needs the time to unwind and relax before diving in to a demanding new job. Most recent grads take some sort of “bar trip” which can mean anything from a six-week-long backpacking trip in Southeast Asia, to three weeks of luxury globetrotting, to a week down the Cape with friends and family. Some people even use it as the perfect time for a wedding and honeymoon. Others choose to go home and do absolutely nothing. I’m planning a bit of a grab bag, beginning with my August adventures.

 

I’ve pounded the pavement right out of NYC for the next couple of months!
