June Monthly Recap

Another month gone and suddenly we’re halfway through 2016. The first six months of this year were a whirlwind of activity, and things are only set to get busier from here on out. You can take a look at January, February, March, April, and May, and then read on for my June monthly recap!

I always think a good way to reflect on the past month isn’t just in comparison to the last one, but side by side with the same month last year. Last June, I was beginning to buckle down to studying for the bar exam and knocking out weekend races to complete the New York Road Runners 9+1 program for marathon entry. This time around, I’ve been working as a lawyer for more than 8 months and the first week of June marked the first week of my official marathon training.

Nearly four weeks in, I can safely say marathon training is unlike the running I’ve done thus far. I’m doing planned interval and tempo workouts, voluntarily running up hills (for short bursts), and have a dedicated day for core workouts for the first time since I became a runner. It’s a challenge, but I’m helped along by the knowledge that my coach Laura knows what she’s doing, and also by delicious eats that serve as running fuel, like homemade grilled salmon, French fries, and asparagus.

I’ve gotten to experience some of my favorite summer activities, including a couple of weekends at home in Connecticut, listening to the New York Philharmonic concert in Central Park, and walking along the river path at sunset.

Brett and I attended my friend Lauren’s wedding at West Point and had a blast celebrating an awesome couple.

And the biggest life event of all came towards the end of this June, when we got engaged!

Clearly, we’ve got a lot going on this summer, and like I said, life is only going to get more hectic than it already has been. In July, I’m looking forward to fireworks on the Fourth, celebrating my 25th birthday, the start of wedding planning, and continuing with marathon training. I’m determined to keep up with blogging throughout, so stay tuned!

  1. I think the highlight of my June was seeing my cousin get married and growing the blog more and baking more! Hehe I guess that’s about 3 highlights. 🙂 And I’m glad that you have a good running coach to get you through marathon training, because marathon training is hard.

  2. Well when you’re doing another side-by-side in 2017, it will be pretty hard to top this June! What a month!

Marathon training IS challenging, but that’s what makes crossing the finish line the unparalleled experience that it is. As they say, what doesn’t challenge you doesn’t change you. There will be many more peaks and valleys to come, but Laura’s got your back, and just keep remembering how much it’s all going to be worth it when you call yourself a marathoner on November 6 after one of the most popular 26.2 journey in the world.
