Instead of the usual blahs that accompany a Monday morning, it seems like everyone is truly in the Christmas spirit, eager to get through the next few days before heading home for the holidays! At least, that’s what it seemed like on my walk to work this morning. Even though my family doesn’t celebrate Christmas (it’s Hanukkah for the family and Chrismukkah with friends) I am definitely looking forward to enjoying their company come late Thursday afternoon. Until then, here are my weekly workouts and updates.
This past week, I took in many of the sights that New York City has to offer this time of year. I strolled through the Christmas market in Columbus Circle, admired the decorations around Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center after work, and enjoyed all the holiday lights on morning runs and evening walks.
I also spent some time near Lincoln Center, reminiscing about my Nutcracker years (which you may have seen on my Instagram). One of these days I’ll write a post on my childhood ballet days.
Although you wouldn’t be able to tell from the photos, all the holiday decorations are up in the midst of some unseasonably warm weather. I was running in shorts for most of the week, and although the weekend was a little chillier, it’s set to be in the 60s on Christmas Eve!
As for my weekly workouts, I got some good runs in after taking Sunday to relax after the Ted Corbitt 15K last weekend. Three weekday morning runs and a Saturday long run that I planned as my last before the Walt Disney World 10K and Half Marathon I’m running back to back in three weeks.
Monday: 5 miles at 10:21/mile pace
Tuesday: Rest day
Wednesday: 4.1 miles at 9:44/mile pace
Thursday: 4.5 miles at 10:00/mile pace
Friday: Rest day
Saturday: 8 mile long run at 10:44/mile pace
Sunday: 6 miles at 10:28/mile pace
Looking ahead, I plan to fit in 3-4 runs of 4-6 miles for each of the next two weeks, and one more 7 miler this Saturday. I didn’t really “train” for these upcoming races, but I figured with the 11+ miles I ran on Ted Corbitt day and this weekend’s 8 miler it makes a nice and neat taper. Plus, a week from today, I am having a minor stomach biopsy procedure so the doctors can confirm a diagnosis for some of the tummy issues I’ve been having the past few months. So there’s some built in rest time for the days before and after 🙂

Working in customer service and sales has had me “anticipating” the holidays since the day after Thanksgiving…but I love it! We’ve done the 12 days of Christmas at the running store, hosted ugly sweater runs and Christmas cookie gatherings. Even though I feel exhausted at the end of everyday, I love the weather this year. I am not complaining for warmth at all! 🙂
