My Little Corner of the World

I’ve spent most of the summer in the small Connecticut town where I grew up, and shared little pieces with you in the form of running scenery, blue sky snapshots, restaurants, and lots of local ice cream. But the other day as I was taking a stroll on Main Street, I realized I hadn’t painted a full picture yet. So today’s post is a photo tour of my little corner of the world (does anyone else love that Yo La Tengo song? I first heard it on Gilmore Girls and have enjoyed it ever since. It’s provided the soundtrack for my thoughts lately.)

 

The Cass Gilbert Fountain greets you as you arrive in town

 

A museum of colonial “living history”…

 

…housed in one of the many centuries-old homes.

 

And the other renowned museum, as contemporary as its name suggests

 

The exhibits are always funky, like this one – museums around the tristate area are devoting rooms to each of the Seven Deadly Sins, and the sign points in the direction of each of them

The sidewalk runs right into the center of town

 

Past stately Victorian homes – this is the “Halloween House” because the owners spook it up for the holiday!

SummerFest is a sidewalk sale, and for the first time this year it had a fun theme (shades of Gilmore Girls, am I right?) There are lots of festivals in town year-round.

There are ‘history in the streets signs’ to mark historic locations, like the site of the 1777 Battle of Ridgefield – or the park!

 

Ballard Park has a gorgeous gazebo, and today there are weekly summer evening concerts

 

The library is across the way (I came weekly as a kid)…

 

And the Prospector, a new non-profit movie theater dedicated to providing jobs for the differently abled. It’s where I saw Inside Out.
