And we’re back with Five Things Friday! I haven’t done one of these in awhile, mostly because there’s been so much else to talk about here with you. But now that I’m in the thick of bar studying, it’s about time to share some of the the frozen treats that sweeten up my daily eats. You had to know this one was coming. Now that June is in full swing, it’s high season for ice cream and other such sweets. Whether it’s a few scoops of my favorite flavors at the local ice cream shop, making my own sundae at home, or trying out new frozen treats, I am taking full advantage.
1. Ice Cream Cones:
One of my favorite activities on a summer evening is taking a trip to the local ice cream shop for a scoop of one of my favorite flavors. At Ferris Acres I can even nab a gluten free cone! Wherever I go, I always top my treat with rainbow sprinkles for some extra pizzazz. I tend to choose my favorite flavors consistently – these include Moose Tracks and Strawberry at Emack & Bolio’s, Raspberry Fudge Swirl with a sweet cream base at Ferris Acres, Cherry Vanilla at Deborah Ann’s, and pretty much any berry-and-dark-chocolate-chunk combo you can think of anywhere.

2. Homemade Sundaes:
I tend to start with a base of vanilla, some sort of berry or cherry, or peanut butter ice cream, since I’m not a fan of the chocolate ice cream itself – just dark chocolate chips, chunks, and peanut butter cups! Then I add peanut butter or jam or preserves and some of those toppings, along with rainbow sprinkles.

3. Frozen yogurt:
I really like the Yasso brand of frozen yogurt bars, and I’m a big fan of any Greek frozen yogurt – especially the Banana Peanut Butter kind from Ben & Jerry’s! And while it doesn’t taste like the “real thing” I am always up for a trip to Yogurtland or 16 Handles – swirly sweetness in its own right.
4. Fruttare Fruit & Milk Bars:
These new-to-me frozen treats are delicious and feed my cravings when I want something a little healthier than ice cream, or just something on a stick! I’ve only tried the Strawberry and Mixed Berry flavors, but they also come in banana, coconut, and more.
5. So Delicious Frozen Dessert:
Another fun alternative find. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the taste of coconut in my ice cream. But recently it was on sale at my local grocery store, and I went for it, mainly because I spotted the Cookie Dough in a gluten free variety and had to try it. I am so glad I did, because I finally had myself some Gluten Free Cookie Dough and it was divine, as was the Oregon Mixed Berry flavor – a bit thicker than a typical sorbet and perfect for a treat both refreshing and filling. I’m sure it would make an excellent smoothie base as well.
And that’s a freeze on my five frozen dessert picks! I left out Popsicles and other fun treats…but the rest of the summer is waiting to remedy that.
What’s your favorite ice cream – flavor, brand, shop? Do you like any alternative ice creams?

I am loving on the chocolate cupcake ice cream ( with cream filling) that I found at my local grocery store. I secretly have hidden an extra container in my basement freezer..shhh!

I’m with you on Yasso – have you try the salted caramel bars? I lime them after a run sometimes. I really want to try the chocolate PB one but haven’t found anyone who carries them. π¦

I have tried the caramel ones, but they were a little too sweet for my liking – I prefer caramel ice cream when I want that taste! I like the vanilla, fruit, and mint chip Yassos.

Such a delicious list. I love ice cream and froyo, especially when you give it lots of toppings. No particular brand or flavor, I love a lot. I do tend to be partial to ones with chocolate, peanut butter or mint. Currently could really go for the B&J Americone Dream though for some reason.

I went to UCONN so the Dairy Bar will always hold a special place in my heart – there really isn’t quite like it. We were spoiled and even had it available in some dining halls. I also always make a trip to the Juice Bar in Nantucket when I’m there. It’s an absolute staple. Over MDW I got in on the ferry at 10pm and went straight for some ice cream : ) #Priorities.

You’re killing me with this – hahaha! It all looks so good! You mentioned Popsicles and reminded me that I really want to get some of those molds to make them at home, so thank you! I also have yet to try the Yasso bars and I’ve heard they are delicious. Hope you have a great weekend!

I actually don’t like ice cream that much, probably because my parents own an ice cream restaurant so I grew up on it daily! If I had to choose it would be plain vanilla though.. I know, so lame!

Understandable – although I worked at a summer camp as a gymnastics counselor by morning and ice cream scooper for the kids by afternoon, and even after that didn’t lose my affection for it π

And now I want ice cream. π It’s actually been a pretty long time since I’ve had any, especially good ice cream. I think the 4th of July weekend is a good time to change that. π Thanks for sharing your faves! Have a wonderful weekend!
